Frequently Asked Questions

How Do Drains Become Blocked?

  • Most bathroom drain clogs result when dirt, skin flakes, and especially hair binds to soap scum on the walls of drain pipes. Over time, this gunk accumulates and reduces water flow.
  • Clogged toilets are a nasty business. These mainly happen when people try flushing down items that do not dissolve or break apart in water.
  • Kitchen sink drains clog when cooking grease or oil cake onto drain pipe walls. Add detergent soap scum and un-dissolved food particles (such as rice which expands in water), and you’ve got a stubborn, gunky clog.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE A BLOCKED DRAIN?

Your pipes will give you ample warning signs of an impending sewer obstruction.

Some of these signs may include:

  • Problems across multiple drains in the home.
  • Sewage smell is rising from drains or toilet.
  • Abnormal plumbing behaviours. For example, the washing machine drains and causes soapy water to come up in the shower or bathtub.
  • Gurgling or bubbling from drains, pipes, or toilet.

If any of these signs are present, it can be evidence that a clog is on the way. It is always better to take prompt drain cleaning action before a full blockage occurs.

AFTER MY DRAIN HAS BEEN UNBLOCKED, HOW DO I PREVENT FURTHER BLOCKAGES?

To prevent the likelihood of a clog forming in your pipes, avoid flushing or rinsing away the following:

  • ‘Flushable’ Wipes
  • Cooking Oil or Grease
  • Automotive Oils
  • Solid Foods
  • Paper Towels
  • Cotton Balls
  • Feminine Products
